Welcome to our cozy glamping cabin nestled in the lush Hawaiian Jungle on the Big Island (Hawaii Island)! Our little slice of paradise is the perfect escape for nature lovers and those seeking a secluded country retreat on the largest active volcano on the planet! Only a short drive to Volcanoes National Park (8.7 miles, 15 minutes)! We are located in an agricultural area of the island, which gives you an opportunity to experience “Real Hawaii”.

The eco-container cottage is an off-grid oasis set in a native Ohi’a ha forest 2500ft up on Kīlauea. Our cooler temperatures and breathtaking night sky views make for a relaxing and unique Big Island stay. The container home is equipped with 2 queen sized beds, an 8ft couch, a flat screen tv, an outdoor covered kitchen, a mini fridge and freezer, pots, pans, basic dishes, a wrap-around covered porch, a composting toilet, and a stand-up shower, as well as an outdoor clawfoot tub built into the deck. The container has its own solar power system, rainwater catchment, Wi-Fi with high-speed internet, and heater, and we always have hot water! Due to power constraints being off-grid, there is no microwave, clothes iron, washer, dryer, or dishwasher.

The Container Home is located 30-45 minutes (27 miles) from Hilo airport, 12 minutes (7 miles) to the historic town of Volcano, and a short 15-minute (8.7 miles) drive to the entrance of Volcano National Park. Whether you are curious about what it’s like to be off-grid or you are looking for a relaxing getaway, you won’t want to miss this stay!

To ensure you enjoy your stay to the fullest we think it’s important to note a few things about our unique area. The Puna district of Hawaii is known for its immense rainfall. The rain keeps us clean and green but also means you might want to consider bringing proper rain gear for exploring the Volcano area. We are located 2500ft up in elevation which brings much cooler temperatures than what most associate with Hawaii. We do have a built-in heater and provide blankets but please consider packing for cooler temps in the mountains, unlike the hot/muggy temperatures in Hilo town. Lastly, we are in a forest that we share with many different species, one of the most noticeable critters is our Coqui frogs. They can be loud for some and the perfect noise to lull others right to sleep. Sometimes there may also be boars that love to get into the trash and other things. Catchment rainwater is triple filtered and ultraviolet sanitized so tap water is drinkable and delicious. Once you turn onto the street the container home is located the roads and our driveway are made of dirt/rock.
Craftsman details can be found in the Ohi’a ha posts and beams throughout, and the custom-built tables, chairs cabinets, and stools throughout the home. This is true off-grind living with high-speed internet.

Feel inspired, refreshed, and grounded after enjoying this unique experience on the Big Island of Hawaii. Also, delivery through Instacart is now an option. You can skip the grocery store stop and have your favorite food and snacks delivered just as you’re arriving.

Guest access:
Enjoy your own private Container home behind a locked gate with outdoor security cameras, while enjoying a feeling of peace and seclusion in the beautiful rainforest surroundings. The gate will be locked when you arrive, but you can manually open/close it and we recommend keeping it closed and locked at night.
The Big Island of Hawaii is exactly that, BIG. In order to get around, a rental car is a must. There is free parking in the driveway/parking spots within a few steps of the container home.
We have hosts that live on-site across the property and are there to address any needs you have during your stay.

Things to do:
After a day of exploring, enjoy relaxing on the comfy couch that has views of the forest while watching the TV, or reading a book or computer. Get a great night’s sleep in our queen beds with cozy bedding and blankets. Spend some time on the large custom-made wood deck made from Ohi’a ha trees from the property. Sit in the custom-made chairs while reading a book or your computer and enjoy your private outdoor forest. On a clear night, there are a million stars. Our close location to Volcano makes it is easy drive to all of Volcano Village’s restaurants, stores, and Sunday morning farmer’s market. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park entrance is less than seven miles from your doorstep. Enjoy hikes and driving tours in the park. You can get views of the recent Kilauea eruption by helicopter or boat tours. There are many activities on the Big Island, and we’ve included our favorite Hawaii things to do in our guest guidebook!

Check-in and check-out procedures:

Check-in 3 pm – We will send two emails. One, within a few days of booking, a guest will receive an email with check-in details, property location, and other important information. The second email will be sent a few days before your arrival and will have the same information as the first email along with a map with directions to the property, the code to the front gate, and a code to the lock box for the unit. When available early check-in is available for a fee.

Check out 11 am – Guests will make sure all their garbage is picked up and placed in trash cans or in bags next to the trash cans. Lock the unit and put the key back into the lockbox. When available late checkout is available for a fee.

Basic info:

2 nights minimum. Max 3 weeks stay. If wanting to stay longer we will need to discuss and make separate arrangements.

Cancellation Policy when booking on our website – 30 days before the reservation day for a full refund. Under 30 days to 72 hours before the reservation day is a 75% refund. 72 hours to 24 hours before the reservation day is a 50% refund. Under 24 hours no refund. If booking through a third party (other than our website) please review the third parties cancelation process and refunds as we abide by their rules.

Pricing – 120 a night with a 2-night minimum and an 80-dollar cleaning fee. If guests are staying 7+ days, we offer a 10% discount. Guests need to make a deposit to hold their booking.

Pet policy – we will consider well-behaved dogs and animals for island staycations but will require a $100 dollar Deposit and $50 is refundable if there are no damages or losses.

House Rules

Maximum of 4 guests, NO events, and NO pets without prior arrangements and deposit.

The bathroom is equipped with a composting toilet with explicit instructions for use. The collected waste is put into a compost pile. Because of this, it is VERY IMPORTANT that only human waste goes into the toilet with the proper amount of bark chips. This simple system was not made for pads, tampons, floss/flossers, condoms, or anything other than human waste, but a trash can is provided to dispose of these other items.

Guests do NOT have access to any outbuildings or storage tents on the property unless given express permission by the Owner or Manager after signing a waiver. Until a waiver is signed, permission is not granted even if allowed verbally by the property hosts.

Close and lock the gate as you come and go.

Parking is in the designated spaces only next to the rented unit.

Aside from designated outdoor gear, no items should be removed from the property.

Guests are welcome to explore the property in designated areas! Please watch your step for roots, lava cracks, uneven ground, and any other dangerous items. This is a rainforest and there are dangers that come with it. By renting you agree not to hold Da Fire Farms, its agents, managers, Owners, or any other party relating to the property responsible for any injury or property damage/loss that guests may incur.

Upon booking this unit, guests agree to follow all house rules and further agree to indemnify and hold harmless the property Owners, Managers, property hosts, or any other party relating to the property from all claims, suits, or actions of every name, kind, and description, brought for, or on account of: (A) injuries to or death of any person, or (B) damages to any property of any kind whatsoever and to whomsoever belonging, (C) any sanctions, penalties, or claims of damages resulting from guests failure to comply with house rules, host/manager directions, local laws, or (D) any other loss or cost, including but not limited to that caused by the concurrent active or passive negligence of Property Owners, Managers, property hosts, or any other party relating to the property, resulting from the performance of any work, maintenance or other involvement required to maintain a safe and comfortable rental unit.
